Registration confirm mail stop working after upgr. 2.0.9.x -> 2.2

Hi there,
after upgrading to 2.2 users can't register anymore because there's no way to get mail sending work again (phpmail,sendmail or SMTP). Before upgrading everything was working

Any Idea?

The strange thing is that mail to users and mail notification are stil working...
