Character encoding problem ??? please help ???

Hi...
Well my site is XOOPS in english, but i write news and other stuff in Greek and wheni send a pm in greek to onother user it shows &*922;&*945;&*955;&*941;&*962; &*948;&*953;&*945;&*954;&*959;&*960

Also if you go and search it will show you the news names like these 53;&*945;&*954;&*959;&*960
Please how can i solve this ???

please i tryied to find but i do not know from where to start and what to edit to solve this problem ???
is there any theme that does support greek characters and does not have this problem ???

hello (elladara), i had the same problem, the solution that works for me was to replace after <HEAD> in your theme.html of your current theme folder the following lines :

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1253" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="el" />

Hi Gerasimos
Isos na ine ke to encoding sto 'global.php':

Stich19: First of all you have to make sure that you've "Edit Language files and _CHARSET" see here at 'dev.xoops.org'. ( I think it is '_CHARSET', 'ISO-8859-7' please correct me if I am wrong). This way you can write and read in Greek or English

Then, it is good to join XOOPSGREECE.GR which soon will be available running on XOOPS 2.2.1 (it is still under construction)

Dear Stitch19,

Lets try to change first the theme.html file.

locate the theme.html file in

themes/[name of theme]/theme.html
as you can see in previous post inside the file u will find something like this

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en" />

you must change that to

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1253" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="el" />

then save the file , delete all the files in folder templates_c and try again if u can see greek. in other way give me a private message . by the way i cannot reach your website.
