News 1.3.11 Article count for one category?

I'm trying to make a custom block that displays the total number of articles in one category of the news.

I know there is the news block "Nav thru news" that has all the categories and count listed as links, but I don't want all categories and links.

Anyone know how to do this?

I need that too, and I saw it @ a few places without needing it then, but now I need that feature badly and can't find the answere, though, I don't need it just the news module, it can be in any other articles module ( with sub categories )
