Admin Menu Loop

I have looked through others posts on this issue but have found nothing to fix the problem for me. I have a system running Windows 2003 Standard with WAMP5 1.4.4 running. I try to use that most updated STABLE client but get into a loop when I try to enter the administrator Menu section. I have also tried XOOPS on a windows 2000 server with wamp and have gotten the same results. Something else I noticed was talked about alot was Norton and i am proud to say i do not use Norton on my server or workstations. If there is an answer that someone would like to share that would be great.

What do you mean exactly by a loop?

Like do you get the welcome to the Control Panel for the first time message each time?

Yep that is it. All I can get to is "This is your first time to enter the administration section. Press the button below to proceed." The other weird thing is I have to enter my account information twice to get logged in. Another person I know that uses XOOPS only has to enter it once. Could this be related?

Did you just upload the site?

Here are a few things to try:

1. check your mainfile.php to make certain the site's are correctly named etc.
2. clear your cache (templates_c)
3. check that permissions are correct on cache, templates_c and uploads (make them 777).
4. try things with different browsers, I find Firefox produces better results than IE. IE has problems following css standards etc. and sometimes blows up.
5. clear your browser cache
6. check firewall settings

I did some testing where I just use a IP address in the virtual address and it works fine now. I was using a service for DNS (http://www.no-ip.com)where they do some redirects so you do not need to remember your ip address for web pages or things like that. So my address would look like (name.no-ip.com) and would be directed to my server here. If I put up a temp site just with FrontPage it works fine and views the page. Only with logging in and going to the administration menu in XOOPS do I have an issue. Any ideas to get past this DNS problem would be great.

I have found part of my problem. If I put my server out on the DMZ i am able to access the web page without any problems. So I am thinking that during the Authentication process you need to access a different port to do so. If someone would know the ports that this would take place on that would be cool, or if someone could let me know if i am not even close to the ballpark on this one.

I was slightly wrong with my lost post. I can connect fine on my internal network but am still unable to connect to my site off the network. My ISP blocks port 80 so I use a service that does a redirect to another port. Would this cause the problem? I can get to the site but not get past this is your first time logging in after you enter the administrator menu. "This is your first time to enter the administration section. Press the button below to proceed."

Any help would be great.

If your provider blocks port 80, just run it on port 81 or 8080 then. Simple thing to switch ports.
Use a service like uni.cc to create a framed page to your ip:port #

So you tried changing the permissions so those folders are writable right?

Yep all folders are writable and able to be used. I will take a look at that site. Thanks. I have also found that if I use my IP address with port number in the virtual path during the install it works BETTER, than if I put the DNS address (name.no-ip.org). I currently use a DDNS site called no-ip.com.
