I've been running a side project site http://www.wrightdfl.com for about a year now and unfortunately something has gone haywire and I'm stumped on how to correct it.

Issue:
When a user logs in the "Thanks for logging in" screen with the username flashes and it appears that everything is working fine however after that it dumps the user back out without being logged in. This isn't confined to just the standard user, it also effects me as the site admin. (Sucks to be locked out of your own site!)

I've set up a test user so you can see what I mean:

username: chucky
password: junkjunk

Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated no matter how seemly insignificant because I've got nothing.

Thanks!

Hi Fish....

You are correct it does exactly what you said it does.

Have you done anything to the site-- at all? Like perhaps upgraded the site?

Have you checked dir permissions to make certain that cache, templates_c and uploads are all 777?

Sometimes that helps.

Let me know. btw. check out my site: http://envision-it.org amd let me know what you think. A link is most appreciated.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the advice.

Nope, I haven't done anything to the site. In fact, I've been very lazy lately and haven't made a bunch of updates I should have.

I checked out permissions to the folders you listed; cache, templates_c, and uploads. Cache needed to be changed to 777 but the others checked out OK. Unfortunately, changing the cache directory to 777 did not solve my problem.

Any other ideas?

Also, once I get back into my site I would gladly put http://envision-it.org in the links section.

Thanks!

Hi Ed,

You may need to try a complete install of Xoops. If you can get to cpanel and copy the site to your PC (database and XOOPS Modules, etc.) that's the way to start.

Once you have everything copied to your PC test the site locally first (if you can). See if you get the same problem there. If you do, then upload the current release of XOOPS and reinstall.

I know it's a bit of work, but the results should ensure you are able to access your site.

Ugh...I was hoping to avoid that. But I was afraid that is what it was going to come to.

Before doing a reinstall I want to investigate the directory permissions so more. It seems to me that if something was going to effect the site external (like the ISP making some updates to the server) permissions might be the one thing that could have changed without my knowledge.

Do you know if there is a list somewhere of directory permission settings for a XOOPS site? I would like to check those against my site and see of everything matches before under going a total reinstall and recreate.

Hi Ed,

No I don't know of any document containing that information. However, I have taken snapshot images of one of my working XOOPS sites directory trees (it will show you my permissions on a working site). Maybe that will help. You will be able to see the top , modules/system, and modules/system/admin

The snapshot images may be downloaded by selecting this link:

http://www.impactappraiser.com/Downloads/permissions.zip

You might also try to "clear the template_c and cache folders as they tend to hold on to files with the old paths." That may be part of the problem.

I hope some of this helps.

Thanks for the system snapshots Mark. I really appreciate the assistance. I'll do a compare and go from there.

Thanks again!!

Hi ed,

I just came across something that helped this same problem with one of my sites. Edit your mainfile.php to be certain that the site name is http://www.something.com

Be certain that the www. is there.

Hope this helps.
