Found something. Fixed it and took the step to actually try it out with some dummy data.

Seems to work.

I'll have 2.0.12a out later tonight.

you're right. there's something in it.

SELECT t1.tpl_id FROM xoops_tpl_file t1, xoops_tpl_file t2 WHERE t1.tpl_module = t2.tpl_module AND t1.tpl_set=t2.tpl_set AND t1.tpl_file = t2.tpl_file AND t1.tpl_id > t2.tpl_id
Error number: 1146
Error message: Table 'xoopsdb.xoops_tpl_file' doesn't exist

what does that mean though ?

I had some typos in the field names

I tried the script, but it didn't make any changes in my templates. I still have duplicate blocks within the templates. One of my clones shows 26 templates under system, for example, but the default shows 38.

Koertzen: Tried upgrading to XOOPS 2.0.13 and updating the system module?
