Hi, i'm new, from Tokyo, glad to meet you.

I have a XOOPS running on my own home server which has 6 virtual hosts. Some users reported that they could not submit to neither forums (newbb2) nor any other HTTP POST related services. The browsers (IE, FF, Opera on Linux or Windows) seem to timeout after several minutes. Almost users who complained are behind a firewall of their schools, some are normal connections via a non-firewall DSL line.

On another virtual host with PHP-Nuke, some people got the same error while attempting to register or post to phpBB forums too.

I cannot experience the error myself. I don't know where the issue is: the forums itself? the Linux kernel? the Apache config? the PHP config? my router config? or my ISP's firewall? I've searched everywhere to look for a solution but found nothing. Help me please!

Here is my problem info.

- TEPCO Optical fiber line 100Mbps
- ISP: Point (http://www.point.ne.jp/)
- Centos Linux 4.0
- SELinux: OFF
- Security level: None (no firewall)
- Apache 2.0.52
- PHP 4.3.9
- MySQL 4.1.10a
- URL: http://www.nhatban.net
- XOOPS version: 2.0.13
- NewBB version: 2.0.2
- My router: COREGA BAR FX-2. I've turned off its firewall.
- IE error: "No post mode specified"
- Firefox error:

Re: Cannot http POST

All this sounds like referrer errors. Something, probably on the user side is blocking referrer information and the web application cannot tell where the forms are submitted from.

It could be something else, but this is what it seems to be to me.

Hmm, can connect to the site ok, but does not want me to connect to the forums.

Thank you, jdseymour

I knew you experts would figure something out. So how do i know if my users are being referrer errors? And how to get over this problem?

Thank you in advance

Re: Cannot http POST

Well I just sent a test message through liaise, not sure to who. But it was the only form I could find to submit as anonymous. Seemed to work fine.

Re: Cannot http POST

For general information like this I have faqs on the subject see:

1. What is a Referrer Error

2. I use Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall 2003

3. I use Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall 2004

Alternately, you could disable the referrer check. See this Faq Page. But it will slightly reduce the security of your site. Much less an issue now with the token system in place.

HTH.

It was my bad to not read XOOPS faq carefully.

I've just turned off the referrer check from my XOOPS and waiting for my users' feedbacks. I hope things go fine.

jdseymour's anon. post via liaise reached me at nhatban@gmail.com, thank you.

If possible, could you please turn-on your firewall, register an account and post some msg. to my forums at http://nhatban.net/ ? I am going mad with the complains i.e. the unsolved problem... :(

Re: Cannot http POST

I would but my firewall is my router. Too much trouble to configure and reconfigure, plus I must go to bed as I have to work tomorrow.

I am sure someone else here would be more than happy to help you.
