My turn to ask for help

I've installed a new site using 2.0.10

Upon registering, I get a blank screen on register.php

The error message on phpdebug is:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/httpd/vhosts/urlname.com/httpdocs/class/mail/phpmailer/class.phpmailer.php on line 1230

Any ideas at all?

Right - I found this out

I was advised to make a slight change in language/english/global.php - changing _CHARSET to UTF-8 - for other language support.

Apparently I needed to make the same change in class.phpmailer.php as well - as per the posting below

Just for future reference... there is a better way of changing the mail encoding that doesn't involve changing core files (explained in this post).

You should probably also make sure you've saved all your language files using utf-8 encoding... I haven't had any problems when I didn't do it, but apparantly it can cause problems for some (or so I've read). Just to be safe I later re-saved all my language files making sure they were saved using utf-8 encoding.

edit: and now I've just read that saving the page with utf-8 encoding causes rendering problems. lol . To be honest, I haven't seen a difference either way.
