Slow Performance

I have a virtual server which is able to run other apps such as PHPBB (I know it's not CMS but it is database driven) with great performance but for some reason XOOPs seems to be extremely slow.

I have a news module loaded and that seems to take the longest to load (up to a minute or longer sometimes).

Does anyone know what could be causing the slow performance and how to improve it?

I would suggest reading up any posts concerning caching - as this can make a considerable difference to your performance.

I have enabled caching but the performance is still quite slow. Does anyone else have any idea what could be going on?
