Install confusion

It says to upload the "html" to my web hosting then change the "html" directory to "xoops".

Well if I do that (and I did-twice) then how would me typing "www.mysite.com" get to the index.php that is located in the XOOPS directory??

I have manually tried to run the index.php located in the XOOPS dir and got the following :
Quote:
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request. The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

So should I upload the html dir and change it to xoops?
Where is the error log located?

Put this in your root or public_html.

index.php

header("Location: /xoops/");

?>

The XOOPS can be changed to anything you like. I use "cms" myself most of the time.

Cheers

Re: Install confusion

Good thing i have wireless and a laptop...

I installed it using the root dir (so no html/xoop dir)

I am getting the same php error - I am wondering if it is because I am trying to load 2.1.

I am currently on the phone with my webhost (fatcow.com) and the domain I am trying it on is http://www.underneaththeradar.com (underworld fan).

I am going to get this yet.

if i click on the link for your site, I get a blank page. If you view the source, there's a javascript script in there to go back 1 page in history - therefore giving a blank page.
What did you upload to the root? it should be the contents of the /html folder of the downloaded XOOPS package.

Another thought - if your hosting comes with CPanel, you may have Fantastico with it, which usually comes with XOOPS as one of the alternatives.

Re: Install confusion

I think that index.html is default from the webhost. I tried http://www.underneaththeradar.com/index.php that has errors.

EDIT : deleted index.html

ALSO which would be better 2.0 or 2.1 to install??

Weird. I'm getting the same message.

Do you have any way of knowing what exactly is in your root folder?

Re: Install confusion

The only dir in the root at the time of upload was cgi-bin. It was empty.

EDIT : I am uploading 2.1 again.
