You need your theme to be cloned first in the Template Set Manager. You can edit that page from there.

I cloned the templates and only found the file "news_block_top.html". I did edit this one on the new "site_one" template set, but the dates still show up.

I have even gone through the "block" edit template and the change is made (removal of all date references). When I hit the "view" button it shows up correctly, but when I go to the front page, the dates are still there...

Any ideas?
