The XOOPS image manager is great. The fact that all users have access to it is also great - because it can be used a central resource for visual assets (BS).

However, I think it would be nice if admins could allocate each user with a fixed amount of private space in the manager for images to use in their own articles and posts.

Yep .. good idea
though this one is not for mudule, but the core (or a hack).
It's a feature that the good forums has (some with an otion to track their "attachment" or whatever they calls it)

basicaly when a user is approoved (somehow it has to open an $ID dir w/ all permitions, and the Imagemanager needs to show for each (?) user his $ID dir...
well, of course making it optional from the admin would be better ... as I said - a core option !!!

Thx for supporting the idea. I also made a post about the possibility of making the image manager a 'file' manager, so a user would have space to upload downloadable files so they could add links to articles and forum posts that they submit? Admin could control the allowable mime types. I know you can do this with some mods, but AFAIK all the uploaded files get put in one place.

For big community sites obviously the space would need to be limited, but for smaller sites and intranets I think this would be great for journalists etc. Ideally the file manager should show if an image is embedded in an article so it doesn't get deleted accidentally.

I am up for anything that saves me giving FTP access to clients!

Yep, this is my concern too
and the wish users won't be able to mess with other users pictures (or files).
