i'm looking for a module (and i hope there is an existing one). that would display a different text( can be a "on this day from history", words of wisdom, proverbs. etc.) on a particular block every day(not random). The text would come from a database that would contain a specific/different text everyday of the year.

You may want to have a look at the Random Quotes module. See if it works for you.
