Hi, I'm new to Xoops, but I'm loving it so far!

I have the news module selected as the default for the home page.

This results in the following being the url to the site:

http://mydomain.com/modules/news/

Is there a way to make http://mydomain.com the home page without it showing .../modules/news/??

Also I've looked at a few people's sites for inspiration and I see some have a welcome portion at the top of the home page. How is this done? Do you have to create a custom page? I was just wondering as if you create a welcome news story, it shows the author and the date - but on the example sites, it's just a nice intro...

This site has an welcome on the home page too. Is this just a block centred? Is that how you can get multiple module-type things on the front page? - by centring the blocks - see the homepage of this site to see what I mean:
"Welcome to the Official XOOPS website!"
"Latest XOOPS news"
"Recent Topics"

Hope this makes sense!!

Thanks in advance...

Setting XOOPS to use a module as the homepage is essentially just a redirection. If you want to cloak this then you'll need some for or URL rewriter. Have a look ad mod_rewrite for apache (not this works at the webserver level, not the XOOPS level).

The welcome message I *think* you're refering to is done through the theme. I've done it in the Karate Redux series of themes I made. Have a look on my site (http://www.it-hq.org) and download any of the Karate Redux themes and look at the theme.html code. Post back if you need help and I can probably track down the exact code for you.

That's super, Brash.

I'll check out your site and take a look. It makes sense as you said - just because there are modules galore doesn't mean that there's no reason to get your hands dirty and get into the code...

I'll also check out the url rewrite thing. I just wasn't sure if it was something in Xoops...

Brash, I checked out your site - very nice :)

Ok, I figured it out!! the welcome page that is...

It's a custom block. Up until know I hadn't created any, and only recently realised you could have a block in the centre.

That would get round the URL issue too as I can have a welcome section, and display some blocks showing news related stuff, without having to have the News module as the home page.

Still I'm sure the url rewrite would be good to know.

Thanks for your help and quick responses :)

Now on with the fun
