I have a problem

I've downloaded Xoops, and uploaded it to my subdomain at http://www.portal.prioritycomputers.net. I followed the installation wizard and actually chmod'ed a few extra files to 777 just for good measure figuring I could go back to 664 later.

I have tried every KNOWN configuation to get TO the installation that I know of!

I've tried:
http://www.portal.prioritycomputers.net/xoops/index.php
http://www.portal.prioritycomputers.net/xoops/admin.php
http://www.portal.prioritycomputers.net/xoops/install.php
and NONE of them work...I get 404 errors! YES, I've read thru the 404 guide as well.

I am on a linux server, using phpmyadmin version 2.6.1-pl2
with MySQL version 4.0.24.

I would REALLY like to try Xoops. Liz

Either the URL you've specified is not correct, or the account used by apache to access the files doesn't have the correct permissions. Obviously if you've changed the permissions ot 777 then this of concern. Did you do a recursive chmod when setting your permissions?

I'm not sure I know what that means?

I've checked the ftp at the site to be sure of the chmod...the apache is theirs, not mine, I have to use another ftp program to get to the server. But I do have access to the web shell and can do a chmod from there if I need to.

As far as the url being incorrect, it's possible BUT I just installed CubeCart on my main domain, http://www.prioritycomputers.net over the weekend and used http://www.prioritycomputers.net/CubeCart/install.php for it. That's why I tried the http://www.portal.prioritycomputers.net/xoops/install.php tonight. Liz

I mainly have a Solaris background, so it might be different for some Linux distro's, but you'll need to use chmod with the -R (recursive) option when wanting your permissions changes to flow down into all directories and files underneath the directory you are applying the permissions to. If you have done a Chmod just on the XOops root directory, then it is most likely that the permission changes have only taken effect on the files in that directory. All the other directories will and files will still have the old permissions.

What I do is open all the directories and do the files inside...cause I discovered that problem early on :) Then I do the folder, then it's folder, that that folder...get my drift? I work my way out in other words. Oh, and I am using a linux server but am on a windows machine (windows xp). Liz

Try http://www.portal.prioritycomputers.net/Xoops/ (note the capital "X" in Xoops). I just tried it and got your install script.

Lazy Windows practices strikes again . Been using Unix for 5 years and I still get caught out on occasion with the old case sensitive trick
