Xoopsters,

hopefully someone out there can help me.

I have installed XOOPS (version 2.0.9.2)
via fantastico on cPanel in a subdirectory as directed.

everything seems to have installed fine on

http://www.thewellnesswoman.co.uk/colette

but I wanted the login/start page to load when you type in the main domain http://www.thewellnesswoman.co.uk

So I tried changing the url bit on the mainfile as suggested somewhere on this site . . . but

no luck, instead, I get a INDEX OF and then all the files/subdirectories

and then when I go back to the orginal http://www.thewellnesswoman.co.uk/colette I get missing gifs and can't log in.

so I changed it all back on the mainfile.php and it works fine.

can anyone expalin to me why it won't load when the XOOPS url bit is changed in the mainfile??? I did this for another site and it worked fine.

do I need an .htaccess file? when I compared the files with the site i did before these seemed to be there - how they got there I don't know - but on the new lot of hosting space they are not - if so how do you compile them and where???

all the chmods have been changed to what they should be i.e cache, templates_c and uploads to 777 etc

so how do I progress - what do I need to do to get the site loading from http://www.maindomain.co.uk and not with the subdirectory i.e. http://www.thewellnesswoman.co.uk and not http://www.thewellnesswoman.co.uk/colette.

can anyone help or direct me to a post(s) that will solve this infuriating little problem

many thanks

Jake aka mrvibes

you should install XOOPS straight into your public_html directory if you want it to load from http://www.thewellnesswoman.co.uk

You've installed all the XOOPS files in the subdirectory. To be able to use your main directory you need to install all the files in the main directory, not a subdirectory. Then when you change the url in mainfile.php to your main directory it will work.

Or create a file named index.php in the root directory with contents:

('Location: http://www.thewellnesswoman.co.uk/colette/'?>

xoopsters,

many thanks for that.

For the time being I have used dave's index.php solution - worked fine, but can you advise me on the following:

teedee suggests installing XOOPS on the main public_html directory, BUT

when I tried installing XOOPS via fantastico on cPanel, it says leave a box blank if you want to install it on the root/main public_html - so I did initially, but then it said it couldn't install it there because of some file conflict (something like public_html already exisits??)

so can you confirm whether I would be able to download the files from the subdirectory where they are now and reupload the whole lot to the public_html directory and then change the url bit in the main file. would that work???

thanks for that
