I am a 60 minute NOOB. I installed XOOPS (terrific and easy), and had my original (and basically empty)home page at http://localhost/xoops

Then I went into admin, and installed a few modules like memberlist, news, links. I downloaded the PiCal calendar module .. and then I updated the modules database and installed PiCal.

Now ... when I go to /localhost/xoops, the browser jumps to localhost/xoops/modules/xoopsmembers/. It's a search utility to find members.

How to I get XOOPS to point to my original base homepage?

Thanks - iminj

try:
ADMIN->PREFERENCES->GEN Settings

set:
Module for your start page
to none.

Thanks !!

That was easy. I am back where I started @localhost/xoops

I assume then, that only 1 module can be loaded on each page .. is that correct?

right, however, you can use blocks from another module to display data inside another module.

EG:
say you have a MyModule module and a MyOtherModule.

You can set a MyOtherModule Center block to display in MyModule. (in ADMIN->blocks, use the dropdowns up top to choose the module).

See if that will do what you were looking for.

Further, you can clone your templates and then edit the block code to create custom blocks displaying exactly what you want (if you have the coding skill).

Thanks tripmon, you've been very helpful.

I looked at the blocks configuration page, and realized just how flexible XOOPS is. Obviously,there's a lot of horsepower under the hood.

OK ... I'm off to do some thinking about site design ...

Glad to help!

The XOOPS community is great! Make sure to look at the FAQ's Carnuke has been putting LOTS of good info in there.

There is a TON of horsepower under the hood

BTW, if you want to monkey heavily...

Clone the templates @ ADMIN->Templates

Then in ADMIN->PREFERENCES->GEN Settings
set the new template set.

Now you can monkey with the templates all day and if you mess something up bad, just copy the default template over what you messed up.

This may save you alot of headaches if you are interested in heavy template customization.

Have fun...
