I've been trying to do this a few different ways, but without much success.

I want to be able to create assignments (which have text, a due date, some links to other articles, and a grade) and then have my students be able to add them to their "List", and maybe create a calendar to see when they are due, or a gradebook to see how well they did.

Is there an easy way to do this? Or do I need to write the php and create an interface(and if that is the case how in the world do I get started)?
