Notifications. Difference between 'clear' and 'delete'?

I have deleted notifications before by checking the checkbox next to the notification and pressing 'delete', but what does the 'clear' button do?. I haven't tried it in case it clears the lot!

"Clear" resets the form to its initial state, unchecking all the boxes:

<input [color=ff0000]type="reset"[/color] name="delete_reset" value="Clear" />

O.K. Thx Dave_L. Perhaps 'reset' or 'clear checkboxes' might be better?. I confess I was scared to even try 'clear'!
