Basically I would like a simplified news psoting which does not have the add comments facility and does not have the message " we cannot be responsible for the comments of this poster..." at the end of the news.

I run a news based site on XOOPS and I like the reply and comment features but I don't want them on my news section as I would prefer people discuss things in a forum.

Is there a news module that I am missing or is there any way to create a hack to get rid of the bit of writing at the end of a news posting. I obviously disable comments but this does not change the visual aspect of it.

As a feature, when comments are disabled can all links and references to commets be removed?

Just go to Administration Menu -> News -> Preferences and disable comments. Should do most if not all of what you want.
