I am a total beginner of programming. After using xoops, I am very very interested in taking part in building XOOPS core and modules.

Can anyone tell me which knowledge should I learn (first) to be able to develop XOOPS and modules?

Let mme suggest that the whole of this section Modules-structure and usage in the FAQ section would be very useful

In addition, the http://devs.xoops.org site has many useful resources and forum discussions on all types of development issues and practices.

Thanks!

Can this really teach me how to make/modify a module for a complete layman (me)?

Ummm, it's not an A-Z of how to do it and module building is really a skill that requires some background understanding in html and php web-coding.

You also need to know how the XOOPS core system works, including the use of smarty, because many modules integtrate core functions as part on the connectivity of the rest of the site.

If you are just at the beginning, you might expect a considerable learning curve. If you are analytical, then examining how other modules work, is a good start.
