Account info options

I'd really like to change the values in the "Edit Account" section to gather differnt info from future users (address, phone number, etc, instead of YIM, ICQ, etc). I tried hacing edituser.php and the MySQL db, and pretty much ate my site (just now recovering from day-long recovery).

If I edit values in my template will that do it? What about the database values?

From what (little) I understand of this subject it seems to be a nard nut to crack. These fields, as you have seen are hard coded into the core files.

Carnuke has said that it is planned to have more flexibility in this area, or at the very least the registration form, in version 2.2 of Xoops.

I have not seen a true hack in this area yet.

there is a perfectly good reason for that, too: a wrong turn will make your site unusable. i thought i was doing pretty good, till i tried to update user info and kept getting error messages. couldnt add new users either. and for the record, recovering data from a MySQL db is less enjoyable than dental surgery or watching "daredevil."
