I’ve been asked to look into possible 3rd party applications to provide a collaborative workspace and I’m wondering if XOOPS could be the right choice.

I’m looking for an app that I can.

Create multiple workspaces programmatically (using Coldfusion, COM, or java, http??)
Assign users rights to upload files etc to these workspaces
Digitally sign these files

Other desirables are

Simple robust API
Simple to install
Secure
Good disaster recovery

What you need is not impossible to create with XOOPS - however, I think that if groupware is everything you need, there are other, more dedicated solutions available to you.

XOOPS has its strength in its versatility and in combining functionality for multiple purposes, but alas it is difficult to be very flexible and excel in specific areas at the same time.

In the past there were some groupware modules developed for use within XOOPS... like phpCollab.

Are there any available today?

Are any under development?

I think the phpCollab version 2.4 (and -some- earlier) has a xoops-integration but it came with some problems so they deleted this part with the 2.5 version.

I have been working with eGroupware since my original post. I highly recommend it. Has anyone considered porting this into a XOOPS module?

My skills are such that I can't accomplish anything that complex. Anyone interested?
