Making own XoopsCommentHandler

I would like to make my own XoopsCommentHandler that interfaces with tables used by newBB(2), so comments would then actually be forum threads, and could be read from there.

Is it possible to do at all ? Easy or not ?
Any pointers where to start ? (I assume kernel/comment.php could be a good place).
