Can you describe your environemnt? What OS are you using? What webserver are you using? what version of PHP are you using, and how is PHP configured (CGI, ISAPI, FAST_CGI) and is it using any optimizers (ZEND, Turck MMCache, etc.)? What version of MySQL are you using? If you are using a shared hosting service, you may not have access to all this information.

Also try enabling each debug mode from the admin menu in turn and then try loading the main page. Are there any errors.

MySQL Version 4.0.20-standard

i went to the admin options enable the php debugger or w/e .. went ot the home page.. and still it just has the XOOPS banner at the top. and then a blank page as if. i am suppose to add some shit to it. but i went to blocks (from my knowledge how you add things to the page) and it doesnt work.. .. maybe i am doing something wrong? never used xoops. do i have to add a template?

Zyfix, maybe I'm reading your post wrong here, but if you went to admin, then I guess you logged in, so you must have had a login block and probably not much else, right???

Thats it! The XOOPS install gives you nothing else

Its a framework to build your site with. I mean the page will be totally empty.

I suggest you read some documentation ( see my link below) and also the XOOPS FAQ here.

I hope I understand you post correctly.

This sounds remarkably like my problem, see thread https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=29459&forum=1 for a run down I what I have tried.

Its interesting that you are running different versions of all the software except Xoops

XP Pro (no service packs, just critical updates)
Apache 2.0.52
PHP 4.3.10
Perl 5.8.6.811
MySQL 4.0.17

If you fix it please let me know as I am stumped too :(

In case your still stuck or for others coming across this thread. I have fixed mine thanks to another post (included below)

It turned out to be an invalid temp path in the MySQL config file. I used MySQL Administrator to set the temp file to a valid directory and now it works
