I have the newbb and am instructed not to upload over it.
If I rename the current newbb directory and have the upload write to just created dummy newbb directory and then delete the dummy and then rename the functional newbb will this work?

in other words:

rename /newbb to newbb_safety
mkdir /newbb

untar the 2.07.3_2.09 patch over the install.

delete /newbb
rename /newbb_safety to /newbb

or is there more to it that I don't get?

or just untar all files except the ones in modules/newbb...

My practice is extract the tar.gz or .zip to a temporary directory. Then I move the desired files from the temporary directory to the target directory.

Sometimes I forget the power of unix tar.
With guitar, the linux archive gui, I can simply delete the the newbb module. Sweet.

HI. I am very much new to this, but following your instructions below, I have gone through steps 1-3 (mine was a basic install with no custom template). I've uploaded and updated the system module. My confusion lies in the fact that the bottom line of the Control Panel Home still shows the following:

Powered by XOOPS 2.0.7.3

How do I know if I have updated it?

did you upload all files in the upgrade package's html directory?

I thought I had. I've re-uploaded and the same issue appears. I will instead install a completely new 2.0.9 as I have only just set up the site.
