this is going to sound really stupid, but my web provider is being a pain in the ass ..

I set the permissions to 777 on cache and uploads and templates_c and an hour later they set them back to 755 ...

can someone please tell me what permissions the directories within XOOPS need to be...

I've ranted at my web host and all i've had back is that it's a security risk to have dir's set at 777 ... well duh ...

I need some sort of doc or answer as to what the dir's need to be set to.... will 775 do ?? or does it have to be 777 ??

HELP??

The installation guide makes the settings very clear. This is an official document available in the links here

http://docs.xoops.org/modules/xdocman/index.php?doc=xu-002&lang=en

Show this to your host. Other material on the FAQ.

Change host. Without a doubt. Re-setting your folder permissions is outrageous. That has got to be a rarity?... I hope.

Carnuke,

Thanks for the rapid reply, not sure i was clear enough tho..

The install of XOOPS is not a problem, it done and running :) and i'm loving it:)

My issue is that i need to know what the folder permissions need to be After installation.

I will however, forward the official doc to my web host.

Thanks again.

Re: Chmod Permissions

Just tested on my site, changed the 3 folders to 775, seemed to work ok.

Haven't noticed any side effects.

Take that back Cleared the template_c folder, got a white page on reload. definitly needs 777.

Fair enough. There's always gonna be some restrictions with a service that gives you those benefits. Just wouldn't like to think of you paying for it!.

A lot of PHP apps require you to triple-seven folders. Might be worth your while posting a request somewhere on Xoops.org for recommendations for a low/no-cost provider who allows this?.
