How to clear cache

I have a Custom Block which I set 1 month cache before. Now I have made some changes, but when I save the changes, I set it no cache and save it, it says "unable to clear cache in XXXX"

My question is: What is the proper procedure to clear the cache?

I normaly just do it twice and the second time it works

Plus hit update in admin prefrences updates cached files

plus there is a cache cleaning module if on linux

the "unable to clear cache in XXXX" is a normal error message. Normal in the sense that it may work, even though you get the error message. I have only superficially looked at it, but I think that if there is no cached file to delete, it throws the error - this can happen if the block has not been shown since last cache clearing, then no cached block file will exist.

Is the block updated after you made the changes?

Otherwise try going to the system admin -> preferences -> general settings and just submit the form there. That will clear ALL cached files.

My custom block is difficult, I tried several times, but as soon as revert to 1 month cache, the additions disappears. I finally fed up and too the system admin -> preferences -> general settings approach, it did cleared every thing, but now I have to going to reset those caches I cannot remember. Another thing I have to document.

You could add another block that's viewable only to admins, and simply contains a link to a custom script that clears the cache for your other block.

But don't ask me for the details on how to do that.
