How can I add a search function with drop-down box?

I want to create a search function in a module like “job listing module” with the drop-down the categories in the database. Then after user select relate data from the drop down box and system will follow the selected data to search the database with the relate data and display it. For example the search job function http://www.CareerOne.com.au

How can I do that? Please teach me or where can find something simple sample!!!
