Is it possible to use regular expressions in the word censoring option?

I haven't had much to do with this functionality, but I do believe that it should be possible, yes.

I don’t mean to highjack the thread. But I tried using profanity filter at one stage last year on one of my sites and when a person registered it filtered there nickname and they couldn’t log in because it changed. Does anyone else find it a bit sensitive and what causes this? Ever since that I haven’t bothered with it and it’s a shame because it’s great at moderating the sites when I and the team are not available such as Christmas hols.
