Oh, sorry... ^^'
Lemme try to explain better.

I mean, a code in image format the user has to type when a user is gonna sign up for a account to prevent bots doing mass register.

I'm sure someone implemented it and posted something about... (but if I can remember, he didn't share the code)

Maybe someone from core team can say anything about it ...

Otherwise you could ask Predator if something has happened since this thread came up:

This is something I might be willing to work on, if someone could locate some open-source or public-domain code for making the image.

I know how to use the GD library to make an image that contains a string of text, but for maximum effectiveness, the text should be "distorted" so that it can be read by a human, but not by an image-processing script. I've looked around, but haven't found anything.

So that is your mission. Find me some code.

P.S. PHP code is preferred, but something that could be translated into PHP might suffice, for example Perl, C, or just an algorithm.

I tried to find some too, but seems like everything that comes up is Captcha...

http://sourceforge.net/projects/session-captcha/
http://forums.devshed.com/t114325/s0f0116512eeb7097d07e64b906e0ded2.html

Does it do it?

Anyways, I'll try to find something different later...

I realize this thread is really old by now but I'm seeking a captcha type solution and ran across your post.

There's a list of php tools available here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha

Perhaps one of these might work well. This one appears to be documented pretty well...

Any ideas as to how this could be incorporated into a XOOPS module like liase?
