it uses Perl tho..

while a lot of servers have perl installed that is ok, but what of the ones that don't?

it would need to be an optional setting..

and for those servers that have limited memory settings.. ie mine (unfortunately) i want to reduce the amount of data as much as possible, and by using a progress indicator this would increase load slightly and for 56k users would also slow the connection down..

u may argue ok it wouldn't slow it down much.. but any info coming to and from ur pc will slow other connections down.. and believe me on 56k dial up you want all the bandwidth u can get in as little time as possible due to browser timeouts etc...
