I installed the conjecture module and set it to 'smf', but nothing shows up in 'assign forums'.
In what directory must I place the smf forum?

@ Orstio: Read permissions set so that the webserver can read the files?

@ Svaha: You'll need to install both SMF and the SMF-XOOPS bridge module in which you define the path of the SMF forum

@ Lance_: I'll try to set up a local SMF installation so I can test this. One question, though, is SMF running on its own database or the same as XOOPS?

Ok, I installed the bridge on XOOPS 2.016 and smf 1.1 rc3, the bridge is working as you can see here : http://www.amevita.eu/modules/smf/

When I go to assign forums I see 'portal sites' selected, this is actually the smart partner module?

"Assign forums" means assigning which forum to add threads in for which module.

You can e.g. have one forum for comments to your News, another forum for comments to your Partners and another forum, where you put threads about both articles and downloads.

But it seems there is a problem with retrieving the forum list from SMF - I'll take a look at it at earliest convenience, unless Orstio or another one beats me to it (if anyone wants to give it a go, look at the conjecture/class/bridge/smf.php file).

Mith,

I have them on seperate DBs, with different Prefix, so that might cause a problem.

I read on the smf thread that the bridge is not supposed to work on separate DBs, mine seems too when tested, will test some more though.

Cheer.

Mith,
Basically this can work for SMF without the bridge just replacing the various
$config $this->getSmfConfig();
include_once(
$config['smf_path']."/Settings.php");

in /conjecture/class/bridge/smf.php with the correct path for Settings.php (or ssi.php) .. or there is something else that I've not see?

Also.. when an item is submitted, for example in news, does conjecture start automatically a new topic or the new topic is started after the first comment (think the second one, but I'm asking 'cause I've not installed this.. yet )?
Maybe the possibility to choose if the topic is started when the item is created or not can be a nice option for conjecture, don't you think?

(btw, I think conjecture is one of the most interesting modules that I've seen in the last year.. keep up the good work :P )

banned,

Yes, I set them to 777.

That's a bit of a misperception. The bridge does work on separate databases, provided that your web control panel allows you to have access to multiple databases with the same database user. The XOOPS database user needs access to the SMF database, and vice versa. So, while it is not always possible, it is possible in most cases.

I am not certain about whether the conjecture module takes separate database installations into account, however.

I use separate databases for smf and XOOPS and different database users, stil the bridge works as far as I can see.

@Orstio : is your directory structure : root/modules/conjector/xoopsversion.php ?

Of course.

Re: a Conjecture for others forums?

Thanks for the feedback, I'll try to answer well:

1. I had not really considered (I had had the thought, but not considered it for long ) that SMF and XOOPS might be installed with separate databases, so that is most likely the reason why it won't work.
I'll change Conjecture so that it works with this, just thought that I could save a step by reusing XOOPS' database abstraction layer.

2. @Banned: How can I set "correct path for Settings.php (or ssi.php)" when I don't know where SMF is installed? Besides, login stuff etc. should be synchronised, so the bridge will be if not necessary then at least desirable.

3. @Orstio: I am at a loss here, since it is a normal module it should install just like any other module. Can you upload another module and see if that shows up correctly in the modules administration?
