Actually.. for manuals.. your layout isn't really that bad, it's rather good! Because of the "simple" buildingblocks you have used as template, it would be very possible to have manuals created automatically. e.g. have a form, or something like the old MyTutorials module to submit or create manuals. A script could create these kind of manuals as pdf, I'm sure.
Also.. a manual for a product like XOOPS should be accessable for all, easy on the eyes and everyone should be able to contribute to this..
Brochures, flyers and alike are going to have to be outstanding or at least "different", fresh, innovating and all the other aspects XOOPS stands for right now.
I'll see if I can perhaps setup a couple of alternatives for your template above, but again.. really not bad.. (some beauty mistakes though
