Well, have a look and register to the link given before.

Now my remarks:

- If somebody register himself and chooses e.g. "Webmaster" he will be registered as "Registered user" as always...
- If you create another Group and choose it during registration, again you are registered as "Registered User"

So, I do not understand the use of the specific field / choise since you still have to give Group permissions to the members in the ordinary way (as always)...

How do you add so that they can search within a group? Is it possible?

It means when you add fields to the user profiles you can group them by categories.

Example:
Default:
Username
Email
etc etc

Favorite things
Pets
Websites
Colour
etc etc

Question: How do you define who belongs to what Category? During or after registration, and where/how?

It's the fields that are grouped by category. Just add a category, and then some fields, there is a drop down box as to which category the field belongs, then when you look at a profile, you will see the fields grouped.
