Saving your system configuration

Could not copy the distribution file to mainfile.php

can someone help me out please?

I renamed the mainfile.dist.php to backup.mainfile.php and the mainfile.dist.php.protector was moved to htdocs and renamed to mainfile.dist.php

I then launched the installation procedure by loading the index.php file on the htdocs directory.

this is a clean instal. Is there a reason why this isn't working?

chezael, welcome to the XOOPS forum!

You never had a XOOPS before then?Quote:

Why did you do that?
You have to follow meticulously the installation procedure as described in the release notes.

Installing Protector in XOOPS 2.3.2
-----------------------------------
We also highly recommend the installation of the PROTECTOR module which will bring additional security protection and logging capabilities to your site:

To install Protector module for the first time with a new installation of XOOPS 2.3.2, copy /extras/mainfile.dist.php.protector to /htdocs/mainfile.dist.php BEFORE installing XOOPS.

because it it said I should do that? unless, that line didn't mean I should have replaced the original mainfile.dist.php with the protector one.

Moreover, I tried installing without replacing the protector file and I still got the same problem.

try to re-install without copying the mainfile.dist.php.protector ..just install as usual

you can edit your mainfile.php later to include the protector precheck-postcheck line later... (refer mainfilemainfile.dist.php.protector )

i think the installation guide 2.3 should be rewrite

I have exactly the same problem. "Could not copy the distribution file to mainfile.php"

I have tried a clean install with protector and without.

mainfile.php is writeable.

running IIS on SBS2003

In IIS you have two kinds of permissions. One is by the file system and is the regular Windows access permission (right click in file manager).
The other is a permission instated by IIS and configurable in the IIS manager.
Both have to allow for writing.

thx ghia,
wiped directories at www and databse,
added 2.32b htdocs and did protector fix (mainfile.dist.php)
renamed xoops_dirs to ????_dirs

added root to administrators
reset permissions in OS
created datadir and added IWAM and root at parent with full permissions(MySQL\Data diirectory)

reset permissions in IIS; added write enabled at cache, templates_c,uploads and ????_data and subdirs.
added write to mainfile.php

install gets thru Step#7 (configsave)
hits error #500 at Step#8 (tablescreate)
although db.opt has been written)

is there a protector edit that I am missing?

Try once with the post and precheck for Protector commented out in mainfile.php and do a search for IIS on the forum for more advice on installing XOOPS with it.

(In general Apache is easier and runs also on Windows eg XAMPP)

Hi....

i just tried the unyet release 2.33rc in svn (clean install)

i have the same error "could not copy the distibution file to mainfile.php" when i do this

1. copy mainfile.dist.php.protector to root and leave the mainfile.dist.php intact
2. delete mainfile.dist.php and replace it with mainfile.dist.php.protector in root

Quote:

5.If you need to install protector module,
Replace the file mainfile.dist.php in your XOOPS root directory with /extras/mainfile.dist.php.protector.

if i install as usual without copying the mainfile.dist.php.protector file from the extras folder i can install XOOPS successfully...i then include the precheck and post check manually

p/s: the new XOOPS installtion process rocks...you guys should try it...
