Proposal for new forum structure on xoops.org: Comments invited.

As you may be aware, xoops.org is to change the format of it's site in the near future (exactly when is another question). This topic will be open to comments for two weeks, after which time it will be closed and the opinions expressed here will be distilled with a view to coming up with a final decision on how the forums area of the new x.o site will look.

Please feel free to comment/criticize this proposal.

(EXACTUALLY), Where does xoops-end-user.com fit into this mix. Will there be a link to this site?

Will sites like mine be considered a community support site? How are people going to be encouraged to use these sites for relevant discussions? or will they?

Only one criticism - Why do you keep changing your mind about the future and the role of the Official Community Support site and wasting everyones time and hard effort?

You mean Council member DJ, StudioC and Christian have changed their minds from the original plans being aheared to, and now have a completely different plan, which has not been communicated to those who are already at work on the original plans?

agreed.

proposal after proposal after proposal.

all these proposals, nothing ever gets done.

the work was done on XI. it's ready to go. that was the original plan that was agreed to. now apparently it's changed again.

xoops.org was only going to have XOOPS core discussion forums, no community discussion forums, they were meant to be at XI.

This site x.o should have been closed & archived ages ago & the new site built. what happened? whilst everyone is debating and arguing as usual, the work is being wasted, plans have changed yet again apparently. why can't someone just make a #OOPS# decision, otherwise this will be debated till the cows come home.

(i expect the usual crowd to make some noise about this post lol, go ahead i'll listen as much as you listen. *puts deaf head on though*)

That is correct. Community discussions will take place on XI for things like theme and module development and review.

Simply put anything that says community support sites you can put Xoopsinfo.

Tsquez, who has expressed a desire to start to develop XOOPS themes at http://skunk-workz.com/

I have found all of these to be very good sites with discussions of their own.

RE: xoopswiki.org, this wiki is for documentation use and not for the end-users general use.

I would like to provide a wiki for the end-user to tout his/her wares, advertise his site and be able to use as a general directory of services. Open to everybody, with an XOOPS interest; past, present or future.

Will the project council consider this a viable objective for me to continue on with and do I have the needed support to complete this mission?

Thanks

Why on earth should you expect anyone to use a website that is nothing to do with xoops.org to get any information like that?

Again what we are doing is splitting this community further and further apart for the sake of a few people who don't or can't get on with each other and nothing more. so again, why can't you do all the work you are doing at Xoopsinfo here at Xoops.org? Why? peoples ego get in the way.

Xoopsinfo.com is nothing more than someones pet project and should stay that way and anything to do with the core, modules, themes etc should stay under xoops.org (even if it is under subdomains ).

My god, do any of you have a clue what you are doing or are you all pissing in the wind hoping none of it comes back and hit you.

what a shame, what a waste and what a mess.

it leaves them as they are now, very good sites to use. they can easily be added to the partners module on XI or weblinks module.. that's what it's there for.

with regards to tsquez, there's nothing wrong with him designing themes there, just like xoops-design design themes on their site, smartfactory develop modules on their site & so on. they release on their site, and submit news articles and releases via xoops.org or XI or addons.xoops.org as was proposed. that's the way it's always been.

dev.xoops.org was originally designed for all devs to use to develop modules, but that doesn't mean that every dev actually did use it, they may have used it as a release site & bug tracker etc, but still developed them elsewhere.

but the point is here and if i'm thinking what i think you're thinking that there should be more official english support sites, then that would be just silly.

1 support site giving support in 1 language etc.. it keeps the information all on 1 site.

core discussions are more for developers and not end-users, so imho x.org's proposal of having core discussions only seems logical.

and nothing is stopping you doing so. but what are you actually proposing? if it's to become an official support site, then that would make things worse by having 2. how confusing.
