Okay, so I'm already having problems getting firefox to pick up any style sheets (using default them and I've tried other themes and the same problem arises with either of them).

On top of that I'm trying to make changes to the style.css inside the default theme section and no matter what changes I make, they just flat out do not get picked up when I go to my site (say I want to change the color of the left block or make the right block wider...nothing).

I'm guessing this problem ties to the problem I'm having with firefox so I was curious to see if anyone has any freaking clue why this is the case (I also tried reuploading the theme to see if that would make a difference...but nothing).

Just a clue from my past experience.

I edited a theme for a whole day and accomplished no changes, UNTIL I took to heart .. You CANNOT EDIT the DEFAULT THEME. You must clone it first. If you don't clone it then all changes on the default theme are for naught. You then make the changes on the clone.

I had that problem some time ago...i had migrated from a host to another and turned out the path in the mainfile.php was incorrect.

Bullsback, I don't know why Firefox doesn't acknowledge your theme/css. That's strange, and I haven't experienced it.

To see your changes to a theme, (under normal circumstances), you need to turn on modifications to YES in admin preferences. Clear your templates_c via ftp or whatever, and clear your browser's cache. You should be able to see your changes.

The THEME is the one I am referring to.
Not template.

I didn't know you could clone a template.

System Module > Templates

Advisable to clone the default set.


So, why wouldn't we be able to modify the default XOOPS theme, no cloning included? I don't understand.

Maybe I can't edit the stylesheet of a default skin (as the poster above indicated) so that could be the case.

That still wouldn't explain why the heck I can't get any theme I have to pick up the stylesheet on mozilla.

I also looked in the mainfile.php folder and everything appears to be pointing to the right spot...ie soxtalk.com/xoops (with no backslash after the xoops).

I'll try and find the support forum I used to fix the problem I was having. It wasn't on xoops.org

I had the default folder and the phpkaox and x2t. I was new and did not realize I could not just copy Bluehue into the default folder and use that as my default theme. I was doing that and it seemed to be just fine. There came a time when I seemed to have a theme related problem, so I wished to do some alterations on the theme ... Every minor change I tried to make failed. Even to change color.

What I tried...
1) database selecting default and making changes there.
2) to the filename from the server and edited there.
3) to the appropiate template file through the administration panel.

After working a day or so, I gave up and uninstalled that install of XOOPS along with the themes. So that I could reinstall them properly.

It was after that when reinstalling bluehue I came across the information one could not work on the default theme set.

I created a clone and named it defaultclone.

There I was able to make my edits stick.

That is the long story of my experience with default theme.

I know there are those who say it is not necessary to clone the default theme. They have not had my experience.
Sidenote.. I use IE6 mostly thought I also use firefox for comparison.

Anyway dude/chick... Will / Biter is right you can edit the the default theme till your heart is content. You just need to delete the cache in templates_c through "cpanel/ws_ftp/putty/-whatever you use to log into your site" then refresh. That way you can see the changes you have done.

I haven't tested your issue but I will bet that "biter" is right...

I think you might have messed with the theme and got an extra space in there by mistake....
