Hi,
Well with 2 copies of TNG ( The Next Generation in Genealogy Web Creation Software ) only about 12 to 48 hours away. I guess we are like a mob of chooks with their heads cut off.

Doesn't seem XOOPS has quite yet caught up with the 21st Century.

Perhaps a coder might take up the yoke and write the necessary patch and or module. That will give us frames or no frames ( full screen) for TNG, and intergrated once off log in for both XOOPS and TNG. Sure beats haveing two big domains users logging in twice.

Any coders interested in getting a nice slick and smooth intergration thing going for TNG version 5.x

Sorry i'm not a coder, but willing to be a beta tester anytime.
post a reply here and or contact me at

churchinfoau_at_netscape.net

Thanks. cheers.

Hi davidl2,
If you are referring to the mention of TNG ?

TNG is the world's best known Genealogy Web Building Software Solution.

Can TNG work as a PostNuke, PHPNuke, CPG Nuke, Mambo or Drupal module?
Yes, it can, although it certainly doesn't have to. In order to make TNG work as a module under one of those systems (with single sign-on), you must also download a free add-on that you will need to install at the same time. A link to the site where you can download this free add-on will be shown to you when you download TNG.

Are there plans to support other content management systems (besides PostNuke, PHPNuke, CPG Nuke and Mambo)?
There are no definite plans, but it could happen. I would certainly like to accommodate as many such systems as possible. If you would like to assist in a port to your favorite system, please let me know.

In other words, you need to request someone to make a bridge in between the system and Xoops...

Hi our mod,
Yes, tes, yes, thats a far, far better way to put it !

Guess we could say "Spot On Cobber" !!!

Bridges are probably the professional way to put it, unfortunately some CMS have problems with "full intergration" involving themes.

cheers,

ps. A very important point and word "BIG THANKS" ! ........ an ask with "Humble Thanks" from all those who want to run an XOOPS Site with TNG Genealogy option for their end users.

regards ..... c

Ok - well I'd suggest seeing if anyone else is interested in this system - and perhaps someone (yourself perhaps?) contacting the developer and finding what would exactly be required from the CMS to integrate with his code.

Then the only major thing is to get a developer involved - but at least you would have a start ...

Yes davidl2,

A very down to earth way of doing things, thanks a lot for your reply and suggestions.

cheers.

I hope it was of some help.

Projects like this that just require a bridge are excellent for specific purposes, and they do possibly cut down development times for specialised code. (Although obviously they may not integrate as well as specially written XOOPS code)

I use TNG also and would love to see a bridge for XOOPS and TNG. Being stuck having to use the bulky insecure *Nuke CMS is no fun.

Integration is not that important as I can change TNG to look like whatever theme I'm using for Xoops. Having one login for users is the big pro in this. I'm no coder, but I would help whoever decided to take on the task in anyway I could.

I know lots of people over at TNG who would like to see that. One of them just built a site for TNG themes using XOOPS TNG Themes. The interest is there, just need the bridge!

I'm one of those crazy developers (ie: Leisure Time for Programmers) who codes all day then comes home and builds XOOPS sites at night...

I'm currently using PHP GED View on one of my sites to "do the genealogy thing" but TNG has a MUCH cleaner interface.

It'd be interesting to see the code to find out how much work it would be to integrate with XOOPS.

(I'm currently in "It was supposed to be in QA last week" mode so I only have time to manage two or three of my sites. Once development for this release eases off a bit I might actually have time to eat once in a while... Ah, who am I kidding, I'll probably pick up another programming project or two. Integrating TNG and XOOPS might work at that point.)

I'll drop an email to the TNG author and see what he says...
