Hello all. I'm trying to move my XOOPS site from one web host to another. That in itself turned out to be a nightmare as my site is 5 gigs, but I digress...

Technical support at my new host claims to have transfered all the files from my old host and also imported my database. HOWEVER, they said that the ftp transfer was randomly skipping directories, so anything could be missing. They also said that my old web host used an older version of MySQL and that they had a lot of difficulties importing the database.

I should probably interrupt here and say that I have read both FAQ entries on moving sites.

Anyway, I just moved DNS this morning, and after the update had reached me I tried logging into my site at the new location. The login page comes up fine, and after logging in the main page is completely blank. Opening admin.php gave my my admin pages, but trying to open general preferences to turn on debugging brings up the admin page but the content area is empty except for a small table with empty cells. (The admin page has the menu across the top and side) Looking at the settings for other modules they sort-of work, but all the human readable names have been replaced by their database name/id's, ie the title of Polls now displays "_AM_POLLCONF". I read something in the forums about deleting the cache which I did, and now the mouse rollovers for the menus also display unfriendly names, ie the first item in the system menu is "_MI_SYSTEM_ADMENU1".

Any suggestions? I can't turn on debugging, I've completed the repair on the database as described in the faq, double checked the sites physical path and the database login information, and have run out of ideas. Thank you so much.

Re: Moving Site

Have you emptied the cache and template_c folders? Files that remain there could still point to the old site.

PS: do not delete the index.html file in these folders.

I also tried reimporting the database files myself and didn't get any errors, same exact behavior as before.

Thanks for your help. I had emptied the cache folder earlier but just emptied the templates_c dir as well and have the same behavior. Thanks again.

Re: Moving Site

Do you still have access to the old database and site? Check the language files for the affected modules.

What version of server?
PHP?
Mysql?

For old and new server. What version of XOOPS for old and new server?

I still have access to the old site/database, and have local copies of everything as well.

-I don't how to check the language files for the affected modules.

-Kernel version 2.6.9-22.0.1.ELsmp
Machine Type i686
Apache version 1.3.34 (Unix)
PHP version 4.4.1
MySQL version 4.1.13-standard
cPanel Build 10.8.1-RELEASE 21
Theme cPanel X v2.5.0

-Version of XOOPS is 2.0.9.2 (I planned on upgrading after the migration)

I just found a faq entry about how to turn on php debugging using phpmyadmin at https://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=79 and when I'm looking at my xoops_config table the "Collation" for several of the fields is latin1_swedish_ci. I've always only used english, is this a clue?

UPDATE: The following sql statement doesn't affect any rows:

UPDATE xoops_config SET conf_value=1 WHERE conf_modid=0 AND conf_catid=1 AND conf_name='debug_mode'

UPDATED AGAIN: That's because those values are already 1.

From what I read this:

Could be the biggest problem. Did they give you any errors or skipped tables in the database import? If so then a manual upload and database reload should be done. All files in all directories are needed so you need to make sure that all files were transfered and with the proper FTP transfer mode, for PHP and image files that is binary.

*sigh* Okay, I'll do that next. 5 gigs is very difficult for me to upload but I'll give it a try. Unfortunately, they did not give me any error information. The database should in theory be okay, as I reimported that myself and didn't get any errors. Thanks again for your help, I'll post an update after I've re-uploaded.

I suppose download goes faster. So you could download a copy from the new host and run a compare between your own backup from the old host and the one you download from the new one. Then only upload whats missing.
