I am sorry I took a look at xoopswiki which looks great, but the forum...it looks terrible..bad line up, not clear, what I would call an unapproachable feel.

Up against smf, IPB or VB CBB is not really that good.

Design and the way things look are very very important.

As I said really its not about the themes, I have had some great help on my sites from bassman themes

Its about the core visual structure of XOOPS....its really not that attractive when compared to other cms

So with all this criticism why do I still use it? Its easy to set up and use and I have ridden the learning curve on it...believe me I tried Joomla and had some problems, I just thought I dont want to spend hours trying to sort this out so I built a XOOPS site instead. So for all my desire for changes I still like it. I just wished it had a better design and greater security.

I am fascinated by the fact that everyone has latched on to the security issues which are good geeky stuff and very important. However equally important on XOOPS is the unfriendly GUI both front end and admin side.

Look at the popularity of Ubuntu and OS X tiger ease of use, intuitive controls and good "click-feel" I just made this term up but its like food manufacturers talk about "mouth feel"

The interface is what makes you feel good about using XOOPS as the cms for your site but also what gives ease and pleasure of use to those who come to the site.

2 requests

1. The GUI of XOOPS needs radically improving, and I dont mean themes, I mean some of the basic layouts.

CBB is a great example of this(it sucks) I have stuck with it but would prefer the look and feel of invision or smf.

Generally the content is good but the gui bad please please improve it. Take Joomla many of the devs on Joomla work on macs and I think this is reflected in the look of Joomla.

2. Security, I have seen jokes on other peoples websites about security on XOOPS I have lost 2 sites to hackers. IS XOOPS secure? How secure compared to other boards/cms products?

To make it secure why do I have to download modules and install them why is not the core product automatically secure? This needs sorting

I want to create a gallery website that allows rating and charting of the images on the site

Is there a gallery or similar module for XOOPS that would allow this and allow the users to upload their own images?

I amongst others really like the smf forums, as opposed to cbb...there is a not so effective bridge from smf to xoops.

However on "simple-xoops" site there is a link to an smf module

is this convertable?

what is simple XOOPS in the scheme of things?

there is a module of smf for XOOPS but it is only for the "simple-xoops" branch, I wonder if anyone could convert this for XOOPS 2.0.16

its a pity this thread was highjacked as it is no longer about the question I asked which was to do with an smf module for xoops.

It has become a thread for how to move from XOOPS to smf which was ot what I asked, so if you are out there nd have a way of converting any known version of smf to a XOOPS module or converting a smf modukle for a XOOPS branch so it works with XOOPS 2.016 please get in touch, better still if you can convert cbb to this smf module.

I am thinking this would probably be unlikely but I can live in hope

smf forums yes thats good, but joomla, I have tried it when you see how easy XOOPS is to install how easy it is to screw up Joomla, how complex the admin area of Joomla, the difficulties i had with joomla were horrendous. I did nothing to my test site came back to look at it a few days later and dozens of files had become corrupt!

I am ready to do anything if we can bring everyone, I like your wishlist and the post you pointed out.

My feeling is about these kind of projects you either get it together and i mean togther or you end up with a Stalin taking over , an Invision powerboard, or a as old dog poo on the shoe of the internet.
