btw, becareful about the news group "advertising", its subject to the "spamming" rules of those news groups. if they report you to your isp, you maybe either being warned by the isp or your service maybe canceled. The panelty is stiff.

You can sign up with google and yahoo for it. your web site will show up right away on the search results and top ranking. But just for the fun of it, I entered $2 per click on my subject, a "national" coverage will cost me an estimate of $300/day on google.

Strang enough, my web site was listed one WEEK after I whipped it up. Here is how:

You should post your site description on those news group. The web crawler will craw those news groups every day and you will be mentioned there.

pay $2.50 to have your site submitted. I did, and the Main site was listed right away.

Did you submit an url to google?

I have over 10000 hits in one day and one time only, lol.

That shock me too.

By the way how much bandwidth you have for your webhosting?

This morning it happened to me also. I looked at my site and its 87 guests looking at my site! As a new site, I normally have no more than 5. Further investigation found that the ip's visiting my site are all like 66.196.90.26 with the last two qualifier varies one or two apart. It led me believe this is the result of I submitted the site to Yahoo and signed up advertising on Google (I pause the pay per click ad though). These are web crawlers not true users. Unless you have a dramatic increase in number of registered users, its nothing to write home about.

An obvious short fall, why there is a private mail function with only inbox, but there is no sent item box or a draft box.

In that respect, PHPBB is lot better.

Thanks,

I have asked the hosting company regarding moving the host. They told me its going to be fixed with the additional hardware they has installed. Its been 2 days since and I am much better than before, still some times I got stuck.

Ok, So I turned on the cache in the block. Here is what I did:

On lessor traffic blocks, I set the cache longer. Like my custom blocks, it will not change often and I am the only one going to access it, I set it for 3 days or a week.

The Top link and Top News section, I update it every day or approve news on daily basis I set the cache 5 hours.

The Top posts may have hourly additions or even shorter (on my site), I set the cache 1 min.

Is that correct logic to set the caches?

My XOOPS web site has a performance issue, even with very little traffic. Some times when I perform admin tasks, I have to wait for a long time to return to operation. Such as edit a block and return to block menu.

Before the hosting company put in more memory, it was even worse. It broke down often because some other users on that server did a lot of sql inquiries. Even after the upgrades, performance is sluggish.

What I want to know is:

Is there any way to tune up the XOOPS performance from admin point of view? I have heard using the default theme is one.

At what level you should switch to a dedicated host? I have heard from other forums that some times is necessary.

Is higher priced hosting service provide better performance? Before I switch service, I'd like to know your experience.

Thanks.

Goran,

my apology, it is from Istats. I have to add the Istats html codes to theme.html of 7dana to make it work.

Get info. But how does the CVS folder in XOOPS work? Especially on those development projects and the beta versions.

For example, after the newbb2 rc1 released, there are further bugs found. The developer messages that the bugs are fixed in CVS and some one also mention that they are loading it from CVS folders to find the bugs.

The bottom line: When we down load a XOOPS module be it regular released module, RC module, Beta module etc., should we use the CVS folder or use the regular folder?

I am using the 7dana-clean theme and found there is an overall loading performace on my site. so I checked with error log and found:

[Fri Oct 1 10:28:11 2004] [error] [client 67.124.245.171] File does not exist: /home/twkinc/public_html/credata/themes/7dana-clean/poweredby.gif

Each time when loading the top page. looked into the theme.html and opps, its there. To patch it up, instead of change the code, I loaded the powerdby.gif from XOOPS default theme so it went away.

I still cannot find out where that gif was loaded to, as the page is still using the wording from the meta page.

Thought you'd like to know.
