Anyone who can give some tips to start a new portal in XOOPS in about 1 hour?

Yes! Do not use XOOPS 2.2 if you wish to have a stable version with a lot of working modules which is easy to set up.

To my mind, XOOPS 2.2(.1) is an experimental version with numerous bugs but without any useful packaged modules.

Use 2.0.13 instead - in fact, I haven't seem anything new in 2.2 yet. OK, the admin page looks different, but not better.

No, it's not a stupid question.

Anyone would expect that a 2.2 version is somehow superior to a 2.0.x version - but XOOPS is different.

Xoops 2.2 probably has a lot of fantastic features in it's core, unfortunately, a simple XOOPS user can not use them, because there are no modules shipped with XOOPS to take advantage of them.

You now have to look thru the Module Repository here on xoops.org and then thru countless websites of those people inventing those Modules to see if a module works with XOOPS 2.2 or not.

There were some "promises" (I should better say "quotes"), that XOOPS will be packed together with some pre-selected modules, unfortunately this hasn't happened yet. As long as it has not happened, I would suggest to use 2.0.x if you don't want to try out everything yourself.

I wonder what your answer has to do with Server Side Includes.

Re: Install piCal .8 under Xoops 2.2 gives error

I didn't have any trouble when installing a fresh piCal 0.8 under a fresh XOOPS 2.2, but I think, kernel/module.php has nothing to do with piCal directly.

My god... did anybody read my posting? I said, I made German language files because they are not in the module repository and you post a link where they can not be found.

Thanks - so my work was in vain? Someone else has already done a translation?

@hsalazar: Do you see the point? Do you think that's how it has to be? Sorry that I tried to point out some deficiency. It was obviousloy not welcome.

Sorry, the following statement will sound a bit harsh, but the whole development community is a total mess.

After not being able to find a current German language file for the News 1.3 module that obviously (maybe?) will be shipped somewhen with the new XOOPS 2.2 release, I sat down, took the old German language files based on version 1.2 and translated the missing phrases. So far, so good.

To share those files with all other people that are certainly interested in those files, I searched for a hint whom I could send these files - and got completely lost. I looked into the Module Dev Forge but wasn't able to find one single line with an email address of a project manager for the News module. I looked into the News modules bugtracker, the latest entries were from 2003 or so - very promising.

Is this how the new XOOPS 2.2 will look like? Having a bare core with no modules and each user will have to understand the depths of responsibilities for different modules without them being listed anywhere? Maybe there have been others also translating the same things but also were not able to share their work.

If there is a project manager for News 1.3, please send me a PN so I can send you the language files. I myself am not able to put them into the CVS where they might belong.

And please clear this chaos, it's not understandable for simple XOOPS users like me.

Thanks a lot.

Since you are a member of the XOOPS core team: Can you explain why I have to hack the code? Why is this not integrated in official releases?

Hi,

When not being logged in to a XOOPS driven site (i.e. being anonymous) I click on the username of somebody who wrote a news message and can see all his (more or less) personal details (e.g. email-address, homepage-address, even the headlines of his latest postings).

I consider this to be a bug. I don't want my anonymous visitors to be able to see all that information. Or is it a feature and I just didn't find the right switch to turn that off?
