One of the problems I have found with this site is everyone who posts instructions seems to assume that they are talking to follow experts and they use jargon and language which the beginner/amatuer level user just doesn't understand.

Also, its seems to me, that the majority of XOOPS administrators have shell access to their server... which i think the majority of beginner/amatuer level users don't have.

I would like to upgrade from 9.0.2.1 to 9.0.13.1... but I have absolutely no idea how to do that.

People have said "go get the patch and just upload it" but that doesn't work.. people have said you need to execute the upgrade once you upload it.. but I don't have "execute" permission on my server. I don't have shell access to my server.

I can use cpanel to look at the contents of my server and that's about it..

So in simple terms.. how do I go about upgrading my server.. treat me like a complete idiot.. every simple instruction like your talking to a first grader...

I would appreciate any assistance I can get.

Patrick

Re: block contents dont show after upgrade

I don't even get the basic blocks after my upgrade.

This is the 3rd time I have attempted an upgrade only to have it fail miserably.

At this point, I'm ready to quit Xoops.. who makes upgrades that can't be installed over the existing installation without losing everything ???

It has been my experience so far with XOOPS is never attempt to upgrade anything.. live with what you got or just erase the whole thing and start over.

Its very frustrating.

It gives several options:

Remote Invocation, Remote with Javascript, Remote for Frames or Remote using XML.

When setting parameters.. what should be my target frame and source option ?

Should I be using html code or php code ?

Okay... I can think I can do that also, since custom blocks is the way I was going to go anyhow.

Which invocation code did you use in your custom block ?

Go into admin/groups.

Add new Groups..

Go into membership, and assign the people you want to the group.

John.. I'd suggest you set up a 2nd level directory.. like www.domainname.com/home and build your new site in the home directory.. then once you have it all done, you can just re-direct the www.domainname.com/index.htm to the home/index.html

Otherwise, I'd recommend the flash tutorials at www.warpigw2.com where there is a very through tutorial on moving a XOOPS site.
