I am interested by the number of hits on this thread, forums are an important topic, I am stuck, looks like I will have to leave smf and start a new forum from scratch. I cannot get 2.0.18.1 to recognise x forum. The CBB website at xoopsforge sends an error each time I try to post....hmmm

"those things you struggle against you give power to"

Better to be for something. Be for XOOPS.

I kept coming back to XOOPS because of the community, the opensource, the spirit that once existed on the net before the corporates took over, perhaps all a myth, but worth supporting.

when you struggle against someone else's anguish bitterness or nastiness you just help amplify it, better to let it go with them wherever they are going.

can't access admin area of module

I am trying to revive my macmend.com site onto xoops, I kept the DB and have had some luck in putting modules and themes back to the server.

The site is switched off but I switched it on to check some things and have degugging on.

However a number of modules will not let me access the admin area of that module, of particular difficulty are the smart modules, smart partner, smart profile etc.

If the site is off it throws to me to the login page if it is on it brings up the message that I do not have right to access this area.

I have set permissions correctly for groups!

I have htaccess set to only allow general admin access from certain IPs, this seems to work fine.

does anyone have any ideaas

yes I used newbb and cc through many upgrades and altered it considerable to my ends but it still doesn't compare to SMF.

I find it fascinating that so many people seem dissatisfied with the XOOPS forum: newbb/cbb yet there is so little community support for any other forums.

There is a module for phpbb but this goes back to 2004/5

There is a bridge module for smf forums which I have experimented with and its not as good as a fully integrated forum.

There are a number of other forums for the XOOPS platform but they are not as good as the standalone forums like VB and IPB -ipb does have a moduel based on early invision boards, phpbb, smf.

SMF community bords are jam packed with info on how to convert from all sorts of other boards and cms forums, there is a convertor from CBB/NewBB to smf.

I had some success with it but then your site is cut off from your board, the bridge module as I say is not really to my tatse.

I think the phpbb forum module could be updated but its not within my skill set.

Forums are often central to sites perhaps we need more focus on them at XOOPS. Especially the GUI.

69 views and no opinions is it a record....just as an idea as to how quick google picks up on these things, if you type "best forum for xoops" into google, this forum entry now comes top.....so if you have a great forum module, why not tell me about about it in this thread...

I moved my macmend.com site from XOOPS some time ago and converted the forum to SMF.
I have been thinking about a return to XOOPS but am concerned about my forum.
The SMF bridge module, is not really a bridge, and is difficult to make work.
Are there any convertors to take smf back to another form that has a good module.
Which is the best forum for xoops? Newbb and Cbb whilst adequate always seemed to lack a decent GUI, what other options are there.

Any advice or help would be gratefully received.
