Re: UHQ-Geolocate

Zyspec: I'm not exactly sure how to build a truly dynamic architecture for this just yet. However, I am returning an object that will have a structured output that should only get added to as the module further develops.

I've noted IPinfoDB and Maxmind for additional sources of information and will work both of those in. Note that the former is built off the free Maxmind DB and supplemented with other tools.

UHQ-Geolocate

Crew,

I'm starting work on a geolocation module for XOOPS, which can return an approximate guess as to where a user is based upon a given IP address. There are a number of services and databases available which serve this purpose, but what I am aiming to do is build a single module which I hope to extend to get information from multiple information providers.

Initially, I intend to work with the IP2Location database for country codes only since that's all I can reasonably afford for my own application.

However, if there are any suggestions on what could or should be done with the module, I'd like to hear them.

Thanks in advance!

Administrative Activation Question

I've been working on enhancing my XOOPS registration process since I've been getting hit w/ some spambots, and I have opted for now to use administrative activation.

I would like to know how it could be possible to review a user's account before activating it, so I can look at it before I decide to give it the axe. Any attempts to view the user's account today prompt me to activate first, which I have no interest in doing.

Ideally, I'd like to see the activation email have a few fields of my choosing so I can make a spot decision to activate, delete, or review.

Does anyone have ideas or suggestions to accomplish this?

Re: New Default Theme for XOOPS 2.5

So, has there been much else on anyone's thoughts on the themeing?

My concern is that a migration from XOOPS 2 to XOOPS 3 isn't going to be as seamless if there are going to be a lot of hard and heavy changes to the theme engine. Certainly, getting rid of the XO namespace could be somewhat problematic.

I'd like to see the theme functions for 3.0 be worked into something like a XOOPS 2.6 which can support both 2.x and 3.x themes ... or at least have some sort of conversion / tool / framework that makes upgrades less painful.

Blog Modules

I'm posting to see what modules people are using for blogs which run in a XOOPS environment. Ideally, I'm looking for a native module which isn't a port of something else.

I do have "news" installed, but I really want to keep my own personal rants and such on a separate module all their own. I'd like to know what people have installed and what has been found to be the most useful to them.

Thanks!

Re: Plugin for tag module

It's no so much a plug-in issue ... it's more that module developers need to include the support within the module.

I'm not too sure how easy or difficult this is since none of my modules have a need for tags at this time. (That, and they're pretty niche modules as it is).

Re: Tag module, multiple words as tags

Please let me know that modification works. I was just about to ask the same question.

Re: Need a easy and simpel News Module

I have to give my vote to News as well.

I didn't think it was that hard to learn. Perhaps it's not extremely simple, but it is feature complete and reasonably powerful. I just got it up and rolling on one of my sites which I hope to submit to YAXS next month. :)

Re: Odd Object error under XOOPS 2.4.4

Trabis,

I'm not so much trying to check if I have a user or not, but given a UID, I want it to return a name if I toss the numeric value at it. The error wasn't one I expected to run across since (typically) all the users should have accounts and such. Or at least they do in my test environment.

However, I can see the value where a user could be deleted, and instead of returning a numeric value, the function should return false instead.

Re: XOOPS vs. Wordpress - How are we doing? Which is better?

Here are some things that you need to consider before making a switch.

Who will be supporting the site after it's rebirth?

Does the future direction of the site require features that Wordpress can only provide today?

Is there the intent to carry over any of the site content? If so, who is going to do that?

Is the rebirth borne of a stale template, or a missing function?

What I will give Wordpress and some of the other larger systems is that their mayor modules seem to be more plentiful and better supported at times. However with a larger community comes a much larger pile of crap to sift through, in my experience.
