Appologies if this is in the wrong section....

I've currently got a problem with someone I've installed a site for. Their site uses the XOOPS PHPBB hack to enable PHPBB to work.

Unfortunately they've decided they dont want a hacked forum - and they'd rather have NewBB - despite it having its faults.

Is there anyway at all I can convert from the hacked version, back to Newbb?

Please help - i'm at my wits end with this customer :(

Cache levels are something that you have to judge by the nature of your own site really...

When set correctly, they can really make a difference to the performance. My site is fairly fast anyway - but when I played with the caches - it was even faster.

Basically if you have an area which is rarely updated - stick a long life on the cache.

If something needs to be updated quickly in a long cached section - you can always reset the cache briefly, and then set it back to a long life.

I didn't realise that blocks themselves can have caches until recently... this again can make quite a difference

Don't forget you need to re-enable update if you make a change to the theme.

I may be wrong here - but I think the nature of cookies would prevent you being able to do what you want here....

What do you need to use them for?

FTP Access would normally give you only one main user - and no reputable company will allow you annonymous ftp access (as it is prone to misabuse) - but there may be other alternatives such as webusers, password protected directories or other alternatives.

MySQL is the database required to run Xoops

www.3dpixelnet.com :)

Get a decent amount of space if you have a lot of content (especially if you plan to use tinycontent or similar!) - and plenty of bandwidth if you have a site which may be very popular.

Prices start from about 15 pounds a year (yes - a year!) or from about 120 for the advanced packages (with up to 10 domains, 5 databases, etc)
