err.. wait that would truncate the article too....
hmm... what if i made a new tempplate file news_item_condensed.html with the above and chane news_index.html to include this file...

could i not change the template news_item.html and replace
<p class="itemText"><{$story.text}></p>
WITH
<p class="itemText"><{$story.text|truncate:30:"...":false}></p>

On the top pages of the news module I want to trucate the contents of each news item to 30 chars so that big articles can be read in full by clicking it's link. Has anyone ever done this before?

well that worked - but i'm still quite weary of it.
It's in the table xoops_config and its conf_id 63 for anyone interested.

i can change the config straight from the database - but i'd want to be sure it didn't screw up.

How does your SERVER handle cookies?
if it doesn't record them - OR - it puts them all together than there would be a serious override issue (i think)

Yeah well, every time i try to change the template set in the preferences and i click go - it never gets to the stage where it says Database Updated, it just stops.

hi.
in the faq module admin/index.php i want to take out the new question form and any dependencies within the file to run it so that i can design a users can post faq's hack.
I have found the form under the listcontents process - but i am a little unsure about how it works and its happenings. Then i think it does the quickeditcontents section. But i am confused - dosen't it need to run the addcontentsgo section???

any help appreciated.
