It's something the isp has to do it guess. But if xoops reads the values correct, doesnt that mean it has been done?

In php.ini both are set to 30Mb. xoops system info also shows that. It's wfdownloads that reports differently. If you like/want/will I can give you access to my backend

Yes Mamba, it is a linux host. I reckon it is not the module as both wfdownloads and tdmdownloads have the problem, although I can't tell if tdmdownloads also reports the max uploadsize and maxpost size different from the php.ini

I have tested with tdmdownloads and the same problem exists: I can not upload over 8mb. Does anyone have a clue/can help me?

I have wfdownloads 3.2.1 installed on xoops 2.5.5.
My php ini gives the following values:
maxupload size and max post size both 30m.
However, in wfdownloads I do see max upload size=20m and max post size =8m. Is there something I have to do to change that as well? In the preferences I have also set it to 30m.
Could that limit be the cause of not being able to upload files bigger then 8m?

I use FileZilla and I had to change settings of transfer type from 'Automatic' to 'Binary'. Some times the files were uploaded as ASCII and they would cause blank pages.

Problem is getting weirder. This morning I installed wflinks which went fine. I then modified theme.html to show the link in a top menu. Uploaded it and got a blank page as a result and an admin page with just the menu. UNdoing the modification and reupload the theme.html didn't bring things back. uploading an untouched theme.html same results. After all the changes I did a cache clean. I'm rather puzzled as I never had this before.
