I'm confused. It has often been asked in the forums how to get news on the main page. The answer always was to set News as the module for the start page. That would mean that you see /modules/news/ as url though, but you can fix that with the shorturl hack (so www.domain.com/modules/news/ gets just www.domain.com as url).
That is what I thought I had learned from the forum. However, on the new xoops.org site I see that the main page has news! Is this a new feature? How has it been done?

Thinking about it again, actually the answer is 'not possible' Or is it? I mean, getting the news content on your index.php page...

I had the same problem, searched for an answer in the forum and found this thread. It is true that the faq gives the answer:
3) How to have my news on my index page ?
In the XOOPS admin panel, and more particularly in the general preferences, select the news module in the scrolling list named "Module for your start page"
I find it confusing though that the answer of this basic question has to be found under 'development information'...
